Edinboro University Sports Memorabilia Auction set for May 24:

Fans, autograph hunters and memorabilia collectors will have their chance to meet a lineup of athletes, including Cam Heyward of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Paralympic gold medalist Trevon Jenifer, while benefiting Edinboro University sports May 24.

The event is the 12th Edinboro University Sports Memorabilia Auction at the Ambassador Banquet & Conference Center of the Courtyard by Marriott, 7792 Peach St. and will start with a silent auction at 5 p.m., followed by autograph signings at 7 p.m. and a live auction at 9 p.m.

 

Since it debuted in 1995 the event has raised $190,000 for the university’s 17 intercollegiate sports and its adaptive athletics.

Heyward, a defensive tackle for the Steelers, will be the feature autograph signer. Former Pittsburgh Penguin Mike Rupp, an Erie Otters alumnus who scored the goal that won the 2003 Stanley Cup for the New Jersey Devils, will return. Joining him will be Jenifer, an Edinboro graduate who started for the U.S. Paralympic basketball team that won the 2016 gold medal in Rio de Janeiro, and Bill Hillgrove, radio play-by-play announcer for the Steelers and Pitt Panthers.

About 50 pieces will be up for live auction and some 200 more in silent auction. Among them are helmets, balls, jerseys and other large items, along with photos and trading cards. Those attending may bring their own pieces for their favorites to sign.

Admission is $10. Autograph tickets, which can be bought the night of the event, will be $50 for premium pieces and $20 for flats. Every paying customer will receive an 18-by-24 print of Heyward by sports artist Kevin-John Jobczynski.
